Summary
As Information Technology is developing, file
digitalizing is becoming a need which companies must face and an
area which demands new solutions. Digitalizing provides positive
results to the company which adopts it and also renders other outside
benefits; as an example, the amount of paper used are reduced. In
fact, the user begin to demand this technology due to the market
evolution.
Every commerce application which allocates files and documents
has as a common characteristic: then the information is stored in its
own file system, but not in an open database (Oracle, Informix, etc).
This feature implies the following disadvantages:
- The companies are tied to these products and they have no
possibility to develop, by their own, new software tools more
suitable to their organization.
- The file allocation systems are less powerful than a commercial
database, particularly in the outstanding issues of security,
optimization, internal organization, etc.
- These products are less adapted to new advances in computing
than the databases. In general, the new solutions area
incorporated after a large number of users demand them, and it occurs
two or three years after they are integrated in the commercial
databases.
In the present document we propose to create a new technology which
will allows us to reduce the archive allocation cost, once they have
been digitalized. This technology provided a way to include new
solutions with respect to with business tools and communications.
We will introduce a layer database architecture; i.e., we will
develop a layer which manages the information stored in a commercial
database. This layer maintains the powerful of the database itself
and provided the following additional characteristics:
- Database Management Language Enrichment (with temporal side).
Document databases have a set of temporal constraints which must be
ensured. Besides that, most of them, they can viewed as a temporal
database. To efficiently manage a temporal database, we must enlarge
the database' languages with more expressive power.
- The layer uses the Temporal Logic as a basis for the database
management language. This solution allows us to provide a formal
basis to improve efficiency. This assertion are detailed in the
following item.
- The query optimization is improved using temporal expressions
transformations, using automated theorem techniques.
- The existence of a temporal database query language carries out a
greater number of null values. This is due to the non-occurrences of
certain events in time. To reduce this negative effect, we include
multivalued logic in the basis of the language and we will develop
the corresponding optimization transformation using automated theorem
proving for multivalued logic.
These items guided the two modules of the database architecture that
must be updated: the database language interpreter and the query
optimization. We will built a new database upper layer, independent
of the database management system. This new layer supplies the above
characteristics to all digitalized archive application.
