Alternative Layout Procedures for Multi Period Production Environments

Berna ULUTAS, A.Attila ISLIER

Manufacturing companies, often operate in dynamic and uncertain environments. Therefore, future expectations, risks and opportunities arising from uncertainties should be considered in the design phase of a facility. This paper focuses on reconfigurable, robust and dynamic layouts in a multi period manufacturing environment. One of the artificial immune system (AIS) algorithms named clonal selection (CSA) is proposed to evaluate the layouts for multi period environments. Several cases are introduced where the material handling and relayout costs are considered as deterministic. A numerical example is also studied to illustrate the outcomes of diverse strategies.
